About Purpose: Finding Your Reason for Being

Purpose is one of the strongest predictors of a long, healthy life — stronger, in some studies, than diet or exercise. Researchers studying the Blue Zones, regions with the world's highest concentration of centenarians, found a recurring trait: a clear, daily reason to get up in the morning. The Okinawans have a word for it: Ikigai (生き甲斐).

Unlike Western ideas of purpose, which often chase one grand calling, Ikigai treats purpose as something quieter and more attainable — the overlap between what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what sustains you. It doesn't require changing the world. It requires paying attention to your own life closely enough to notice where those four things already meet.

The Four Questions of Purpose

  • Passion — where what you love overlaps with what you're good at.
  • Mission — where what you love overlaps with what the world actually needs.

🌸 This Tag Is the Heart of Ikigai

If you take nothing else from this site, take this: Ikigai is built from four overlapping circles — what you Love, what you are Good at, what the world Needs, and what you can be Paid for. Purpose lives where all four meet.

Every quiz under this tag is built to illuminate one of those four circles. Take a few, and a shape starts to emerge — not a verdict, but a map of where your own reason for being is likely hiding.
